Campaign against Missing Children

The issue of missing children has been ignored for long by the authorities. Non- registration of FIR, delay and refusal in DDE entry, harassment of poor parents of missing children by authorities was a common phenomenon. It was in the year 2006 when Nav Srishti has taken a note of this ever escalating situation of violation of protection rights of children. It started its advocacy on the issue of missing children through a process of generating evidences from the community as well as authorities like police, judiciary, Child Welfare Committees and Civil society organizations. It was in the year 2012, when the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India have taken note of the plight of the situation through a Writ Petition of Bachpan Bachao Andolan and issued a direction in the October 2013 to the police force of the country to file mandatory FIR for every reported cases of missing children and also issued a guideline for the authorities to deal effectively with the cases of missing children.

Despite the above efforts of the Civil Society Organizations and Judiciary, least has been achieved to control the menace of missing children in the Delhi NCR. In the year 2015, every day on an average 21 children goes missing from NCT of Delhi as per the record of Delhi Police. Though the graph for average number of children goes missing has slightly dipped in the year 2016 in the NCT but still 6 out of 10 missing children cannot be traced out and as per the NCRB data, 2015 more than 10% of cases of missing children all over the country are reported from the NCT of Delhi.

Nav Srishti has flagged off a full- fledged campaign to aware the masses against the issue of missing children in Delhi and Faridabad on 3rd August 2017 on the eve of its establishment day with an objective to minimize the numbers of missing children in the Delhi NCR. It is holding camps in the Metro stations, Red lights, Bus Terminals, Railway Stations, Religious places and other vulnerable pockets of the city to reach out to general public by displaying hoardings and banners and by distributing the pamphlets to aware the masses. It is also trying to involve the police and other CBOs in this initiative.

Nav Srishti welcomes/invites various institutions, academicians, students, youth groups, volunteers, Government and non- government agencies, CBOs, individuals and experts to join hands and extend their support in addressing the menace of missing children in the Delhi NCR.
