Child Development Khazana
Introduction of the Project: Child Development Khazana Programme supported by Khazana Foundation is being implemented by Nav Srishti since July 2025 at Neb Sarai Area. Technical support and Guidance for setting up the project was provided by Butterflies NGO. The Project caters to children in age group from 8 years to 18 years.
Goal of the Project: Empowering children to become self-reliant and develop leadership skills by providing them with financial literacy and life skills education.
Objectives:
- To enable children to meet their survival needs.
- To increase children’s life skills.
- To equip children with vocational and entrepreneurial skills.
- To equip children with financial management skills.
- To facilitate children’s participation in the decision-making process.
- To build partnerships with financial institutions, research, and technical agencies for the promotion and development of CDK.
Activities:
Monthly General Body Meetings are being conducted to promote leadership, teamwork, decision-making, financial literacy, and savings among children. The meetings provide a safe space for children to express their feelings, opinions, concerns, and challenges. Leaders are democratically elected and given opportunities to facilitate meetings, collect savings, and participate in decision-making, strengthening their confidence and leadership skills.
Every month, ongoing life skills training sessions are being conducted in two batches on various topics, including self-awareness, interpersonal relationships, communication skills, decision-making, critical thinking, managing emotions, the difference between wants and wishes, financial literacy, and other relevant life skills.
Regular parents’ meetings are being conducted to update parents on their children’s progress, savings made by each child, interest earned, the safety of passbooks, personal health and hygiene, and the importance of a healthy diet for proper growth and development. Meetings are also conducted to orient new parents about CDK and its benefits for children.
The leadership training programme covers key areas such as teamwork, communication skills, time management, positive and helpful behaviour, and critical evaluation of different situations. The qualities of effective leadership, different leadership styles, and relevant case studies are also discussed. Children are also taught how to make entries in the cash book, ledger book, and individual passbooks.
Major Achievements:
- Many children have reduced their spending on junk food and started saving money in the Children’s Development Khazana.
- A few children have reported an increase in height and energy levels due to the intake of a nutritious diet and reduced consumption of junk food.
- The membership of the Children’s Development Khazana has increased from 80 to 150 children.
- Many children have understood the importance of money and now regularly make deposits and check the interest earned on their savings.
